The Slow Article Matcha

Our single-origin, ceremonial grade matcha powder has been sourced straight from the beautiful hinterland of Kyoto; a region that is renowned for producing some of the world’s finest matcha.

Our matcha powder offers a rich, complex flavour profile with a vibrant green hue. With tasting notes of almonds and walnuts, buttered steamed greens, and finished with a delicate floral note, our matcha is sweet with a subtle umami undertone, providing a balanced and satisfying tea experience.

Our matcha has been carefully cultivated by artisans from a family-owned business spanning seven generations. They have continued to perfect their art for centuries, which can be experienced in every batch. Using a traditional stone-milling technique, the delicate tea leaves are ground and delivered in small-batches to ensure the highest quality, maximum freshness, authenticity and an exquisite flavour profile.

At Slow Article, we believe in living a life full of purpose, authenticity and beauty in all its forms. Our matcha is a reflection of this, offering you a moment of calm and a taste of its ancient tradition.

Our Story

Matcha, or tea in general, has always been much more than just tea. It is deeply entrenched in the traditions of the Japanese culture, and something that was a part of life growing up in a part-Japanese household. Being half-Japanese and half-Australian, spending my childhood immersed in both cultures, we would frequently travel to Japan to visit family and friends. One of the memorable trips being a 6-month stay where I attended a local primary school. As an after-school activity, I would attend traditional Japanese tea ceremony classes; an ancient practice of mindfulness and living in harmony.

My Japanese grandmother strongly encouraged us to embrace obscure, yet enriching extra-curricular activities (which I’m incredibly thankful for today), and Japanese tea ceremony classes were just one of them.

At the time, I only saw it as a weekly expedition for some afternoon tea. My sister and I loved the wagashi - intricately designed, mesmerising and beautiful, handmade Japanese confectioneries that would be served alongside the matcha that we learned to prepare.

In retrospect, it was just the beginning of a personal journey; the ebb and flow of practicing presence, and living a more intentional life. Recently completing a meditation teacher training course has further deepened my appreciation for rituals like the tea ceremony and the intentionality behind them.

Matcha, and more specifically, ceremonial grade matcha comes with a myriad of health benefits. It is a gentle source of caffeine, a delicious beverage, with a delicate, vibrant flavour and smooth finish.

The process of making matcha is a ritual, a mindfulness practice and an experience in itself. I turn to matcha now, as a tool to enhance my own personal meditation practice. Through the ritual of matcha, I hope it inspires you to slow down, to be present in the moment by moment of life, and to discover your own practice of calm and clarity.

Thank you for taking the time to join me on this journey.
