Preparation
Preparation
1. Scoop 2g (about 1 tsp) of matcha powder into your vessel or matcha bowl, known as a chawan, using a chashaku or a standard teaspoon. Sifting is optional, however, this step does ensure all clumps have been removed.
2. Soak your whisk briefly in hot water to soften the tines (the bristles).
3. Add about a tablespoon of the hot water (~80°C) to the matcha and whisk to form a paste.
4. Pour in the remainder of the hot water (70-100ml) and with a gentle yet swift wrist movement, whisk in a “W” or zig-zag motion until you have a thick, frothy matcha.
5. Sip and enjoy as is, right out of the matcha bowl. Other ways to savour it include serving it over steamed milk of choice or as an iced matcha latte.
